Professor Ally Boothroyd heads up the womens studies courses as well as the visual art department. Professor Boothroyd is the design expert behind Pura Vida Media. Her background is in art and photography, she is a regular contributor to SBC Wakeboard Magazine, and has also had text and photos published in Boarder magazine Australia, Alliance Wakeboard magazine, wake2wake.ca, Blast Wakeskate Magazine, Trailer Boating Magazine and many other related media channels. Ally is the creator, editor and creative designer for throwitdown.ca, a very successful all girls wake sports website as well as onwake.com the new online magazine for ontario water sport athletes, not to mention she built this website! Ally has been competing for 4 years, and has progressed significantly in her riding since then, she is the current provincial wakeskate champion and national wakeskate champion as well as the provincial advanced wakeboard champion. She is a fully certified WSWC instructor and judge. She has judged everything from the provincial “the Roots” series to Nationals to Wakestock. She runs the wake park at the Bobcaygeon campus, and spends the rest of her summers teaching TID all girls wakeboard/wakeskate clinics around Ontario and Quebec and competing on the competitive circuit. Ally was lucky enough to study abroad during her undergrad where she lived in a wakeskate sorority house on lake Conway in Orlando, Florida. Her sorority sisters included professional wakeboarders and wakeskaters from all over the world including world champion Jen GilanFarr. Ally can’t go anywhere without her cameras always looking to make throwitdown.ca and onwake.com better and more thorough; she can and will capture every ounce of fun in each girls clinic and in the Wake Institute’s shred missions. On top of being our tech wizard and designing our websites, Ally is also our yoga master she has trained for years and works every morning with the girls (and occasionally boys) to achieve warmed up muscles, perfect harmony, and inner peace before going on the lake and shredding like a maniac. Ally’s creativity and enthusiasm for wakeboarding makes her one of the best people to have in the boat for any kind of shredding missions.
