To kick off the summer TID is hosting a free girls ride day at the Wake Institute in Bobcaygeon. The day will take place on the Sunday of Canada Day weekend, July 4th. The day will include a yoga, a BBQ, free wave runner sets in the slider park bay, and lots of prizes and give aways!   The slider bay is the ideal place to learn to hit your first slider, try out our more advanced sliders, or just get some buttery flat water for your wakeskating pleasure. There will also be sleep over spots available and camping for those who have a far commute or those who want to stay and participate in part or all of our 3 day clinic at the Wake Institute starting the following Monday.

The day will include lots of fun activities, music and more. Pulls will be first come first serve and we will be giving out prizes from our sponsors including Ripcurl, Osiris Shoes and more!

Wakestock time has always been a really big part of Professor Langman’s summer wakeboard season. She has been training and competing at this world class competition for years and years. Last year she was extremely pleased to finish on the pro women’s podium with a bronze medal but we are proud to announce that 2009 marked the year of her first ever wakestock pro champion title. We are super proud of you Erika!! Keep on killing it!

The Wake Institute Dominates at Wakestock. We are lucky enough to have several Wakestock medalists at the Wake Institute this season with Jeremy leading the way with his Champion title in the mens wakeboard category. Jeremy works and trains harder than anyone I know and this win was no fluke. Jeremy got his mind right this season and his hard work and determination payed off. Congrats Jer Bear!

The Wake Institute made the trip to Nagor Resort on the beautiful Ottawa river. Our faculty volunteered with Professor Erika to help provincials happen this season. Professor Ally got out and killed it becoming our Dual champion; cleaning house in advanced women’s wakeboard and open women’s wakeskate. On top of her incredible wake skills, she spent the entire day judging and volunteering to make the contest run smoothly and on time. We are proud of Ally and all of her contributions that helped to make provincials such a huge success this year.

When our professor of female studies Erika Langman found out that no one was hosting provincials, she took to action and organized the entire event herself. Erika did a great job and got Nangor, Slaysh, and Ride the Wake organized to run an awesome event Erika, organized, judged, ran registration, spoke on the PA and then at the very end of the day in the evening as the sun set and she was able to ride herself and win her division. The Buckeye Team showed up in full force this year to represent at the Ontario Wakeboard Championships. Buckeye team riders represented throughout the categories with Aaron Brown taking first spot in beginner boys, Emily Brown taking second in newbie girls and Morgan Brown taking third in newbie boys. Carly Anderson took a clean victory in beginner girls and Mark Norris tool the top spot for intermediate boys wakeskate. Ally Boothroyd was the big winner this year taking  both intermediate girls wakeboard and open women’s wakeskate Ontario Champion titles while Emily Tenwestenind took third in the intermediate girls wakeboard. Jeremy Eckford made it through his extremely tough first heat in the advanced men’s category to make it to the finals where he stood up a stellar pass taking 6th spot over all. Erika Langman took the top spot for the open womens category. We at Definitve would love to thank Erika Langman, Slaysh boardshop, and Nangor resort for putting on the epic day! We love to see Team Definitive dominating at the local level, look out Nationals here we come!

The Wake institute is proud to work with Buckeye Surf and Snow every year to do a wakeboard demonstration in the big bob river behind their Bobcaygeon location. We teamed up with the Buckeye Marine Team, and Edgetown Ford to do a winch jam in downtown Bobcaygeon. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful day and everyone came out to shred Professor Eckford, Poole, Norris, and Lewis schooled the flat rail on both boards and skates, and then the team took to the rail and killed it. We hooked a winch provided to us by Vince Whiteman and L13 and strapped it back to the awesome Ford Explorer Sport track adrenaline from Edgetown Ford that served as our carrier and anchor for the winch. All in all we had an awesome ride in front of the crowds at Buckeye Surf and Snow we look forward to seeing you again next year! special thanks to everyone who helped setup, Ally for driving the waverunner, the carters for letting us use your rail and to scuba Hugh for fighting the current for so long to get the rail tied down.

The Wake Institute is Proud to be helping out with Sarnia Wake Up Call for the second season. Sarnia Wake Up Call is a unique event that showcases several aspects of wake sports in an incredible demonstration to the people of Sarnia. It runs in conjunction with Rib Fest and takes place in and along the shores of the St Claire river right in the heart of Sarnia. The event shows wakeboarding and wakeskating, both behind the boat as well as a rail jam format on land with winches. The Event takes place July 25-26 we look forward to seeing you there.
